Your home during most of the program will be My Lady’s Manor in Estavayer-le-Lac, in French-speaking Switzerland. This small charming walled city has survived intact from the Middle Ages. During excursions to Lucerne and Burgundy, you will stay in comfortable hotels in the city center to facilitate shopping and exploration.
Highlights of the tour
You will start by revisiting or getting to know your Swiss hometown with a guided tour of Estavayer-le-Lac, its castle and old town. A visit to the 693 year old Convent of the Dominicans is planned in the company of a cloistered sister, followed by a private showing of a rare set of Antiphonaires, illuminated songbooks from 1480 & 1490.
Following the footsteps of Charles the Bold, we will visit the Castle of Grandson and walk on the fortified walls of Morat, sites of decisive battles with the Swiss. Then, we will take an excursion to Burgundy in France. We will visit the prehistoric site of Solutré and climb the Roche (optional), enjoy tasting a wonderful white burgundy wine Pouillé-Fuissé, at a wine cellar in Fuissé. Dinner and overnight in Beaune. You will be staying at the Hotel Belle Epoque. www.hotel-belleepoque-beaune.com. In the morning, we will visit the Hospice de Beaune built in 1443 and administrated by Charles the Bold. In the afternoon, we will stop for a visit and wine tasting at the Chateau de Meursault and its huge wine cellars.

Following the footsteps of William Tell, will lead us to Lucerne and the Swiss Alps. A cogwheel railway will takes us up Mt. Pilatus for a breathtaking view of the Alps, followed by an evening program of Swiss folklore, dinner and overnight. In the morning, a lake steamer will take us through the spectacular scenery of Lake Lucerne to the birthplace of the legendary hero, William Tell.

There are three free days scheduled in the tour. On one of them you can take an optional excursion to Lake Geneva to visit the Castle of Chillon, where Lord Byron wrote “The prisoner of Chillon” and stroll or shop on the beautiful lakeside Swiss Riviera at Montreux and Vevey or you can return to favorite areas that you discovered during your Studies Abroad stay.
